| The True Story of “Star Wars” This is the way things always were, until, much as the Star Wars saga began, “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...,” a mutiny arose to grasp control of the universe. A rebellion arose against the authority of God himself and his right to run the universe this way. A defiance that divided the universe and plunged its inhabitants into a cosmic war that would last for thousands of years. Don’t think science fiction, War of the Worlds, or even George Lucas. It’s much bigger; much greater. This war was not initiated by capturing the heavenly armory. It is not fought with bows and arrows, guns, or even lasers. There are no spaceships involved. The issue is not power—the rebel enemy concedes that God holds ultimate power[16]. Rather, it is fought with words, with ideas, with issues. It is about the trustworthiness of God. It began by God’s closest friend telling lies about him. In an insidious, seemingly innocent way, he began to question God’s way of running things. This is what eventually emerged as a full and open revolt, bringing all the suffering and misery we have seen on our planet in its train. He became the spokesperson and promoter of evil—the Devil himself. Rebel Without A Cause The Devil. In mythology, he is horned, red-skinned, with a pointed tail and a pitchfork. Aside from imagination, he is in actuality a mighty angel. Yet he is completely evil. He hates God and all that is good and is bent on destroying everything that Jesus Christ stands for. But he was not always this way. He was once highly respected and loved by all! Full of beauty and wisdom, he was called “Lucifer,” which means the one who brings light. As God’s “right-hand man,” his job was to tell everyone about God and his gracious ways. Why would Lucifer turn on God? He had looked into the eyes of love itself. The reasons may not ever be fully known. There is no sense in it. Perhaps this is why God calls it “the mystery of iniquity.”[17] For reasons that even the all-knowing God cannot explain, Lucifer began to entertain novel thoughts; selfish thoughts; thoughts that led to his downfall. The Bible records God’s lament over Lucifer’s rebellion: “How far you have fallen, Lucifer, bright morning star! You said in your heart, ‘I will rise in heaven, I will exalt my throne above the angels of God. I will sit like a king and be like the Almighty.’ You were the chosen angel that stood by my throne; you were perfect from the day you were created, until the day you began to do evil. You were proud, and your fame made you act like a fool.”[18] |
